art, again

I forget when I am washing the dishes,
pausing, to bear each breath
as I bathe plate, bowls, mugs
in rippling faucet

I forget as I crawl into my computer
to sleep on my key board,
escaping into the wiry winds of
drive, memory,
processor

when it does come-
when I am quiet-
when the world presses down her warmth-
then
I know and
then,
I am free
to
remember

paintings, pictures:
with their nonsensical whimsy
of poised
brush,
varnished stroke,

bringing tears

to prickling ducts

hidden-
so much of it-
hidden beneath the canvas;
a shadow
evaporating through paint
thick with memory,
nastlagic movement
