Fashion with Kelly: First in Class

As we enter the cozier months, it is all about finding pieces that you cannot help but live in, and dressing them up so that they are more socially acceptable. As you know, I'm all about wearing clothing that is secretly lazy, so it is no wonder that the sweatshirt would be a key player for my style philosophy. By using leather, brass, and silk crepe for materials and architectural shaping throughout, the eye is tricked into thinking that the crewneck is fashion-forward. I love how sneaky it is. Shhhhh. If you don't tell, I won't either.

Teen Vogue: Beauty Look of the Day

I just realized that I forgot to share some recent (and fabulous) news:

I was featured in Teen VOGUE as a "beauty look of the day" blogger!

As you may know, I try and blog my personal fashion frequently through Lavenda's Closet and have been keeping it up for a couple years... I never expected to find my face on the TeenVOGUE blog and feel so thankful for the mini-team who made that happen!

Unfortunately, the post was really short and they did not credit the talented, Janelle Hayden who did my hair and makeup for my bio image and Travis Geny, who snapped this shot during a shoot session.

They asked me how I had styled my hair the morning of the interview, but in the photo featured it was the fabulous, Janelle who did her magic!

Lounge Lizard: Red Wing Shoes Event

Stopped in to check out the beautiful event at Lizard Lounge event last night, celebrating Red Wing's re-launch of 2 iconic shoe styles, 875 and 877. I was delighted to get invited to this event, since it was my first time stepping into the sprawling store and I had always wanted to peruse their inventory. Whoo hoo! I was not disappointed!

Of course, I was pretty impressed with the event itself and RedWing shoes. Paul and Williams did a beautiful job producing the event and right when I walked in, I found myself introduced to the brand through a creative installation. The shoes were a part of a bigger story and I had the opportunity to appreciate the brand and learn a bit about it's origins.

The vibe of the party once inside was exactly what I image is RedWing's demographic. I love their boots myself and check it out- I can see them on some of these beautiful peeps as well.

Love the trend of live haircuts at parties recently. They had a sweet set up at Lizard Lounge, as well as flowing kegs and drink options for attendees. The photo booth was fun too! Delia and I jumped in and were happy to see the printer spit out a copy for each of us.

I wore a really simple outfit- AE denim top with an Isaac Her's maxi and my Tied Up and Tousled necklace. Ran into one of my favorite Portland photographers- Boone Rodgriquez who was the official event photographer and that cutie in the red-shirt? She was one of the producers of the event- Delia Tethong.

Portland Fashion Photographer: Lavenda's Closet

Another blog post on some of my holiday haul... The scarf is Marc Jacobs, striped top from Ella's Godmother, Lori, from JCREW and the skirt is Talulah. I actually picked up the skirt on my last trip to NYC from Aritzia...

I wanted to pair this striped, pretty shirt with something a little more fun, but then play down the sequins and color with the black scarf and my ZARA jacket.

The shoes are by Senso and I love this nude booty with bare legs, because I feel like it extends my legs and makes my 5'4 frame look much longer.

You can find more Senso shoes here on Solestruck's site!

Portland Fashion Photographer: Self Portraits

Gosh, I remember back in the day when a tripod and remote were my best friends. Or my only friends, haha. I didn't have photography subjects back then so I practiced everything on myself. Anyhow... it sort of lost it's magic and I think I kind of forgot about the fun and ease a tripod brings to a self- portrait shoot.
I have been blogging my outfits on a separate shoot called "Lavenda's Closet", but quickly realized it wouldn't be frequent enough to hold it's own. Instead of posting solely there, I will be combining these shoots with my LAVENDA blog- right here!
Now that I have rediscovered my tripod, this will be a lot easier and hopefully more frequent.

So, for Christmas this year I found myself overwhelmed with the amount of presents that were "spot-on", like this Marc Jacobs clutch from my little brother.

These green trousers from JCREW were another favorite my husband, Jelani. The beanie came in my stocking from Santa, heehee.

The tank underneath is by TART, the cardigan from Rhapsody Boutique by LA Made, and the "L" necklace from Nordstrom.

These TBA platforms are a fun little treat I picked up at the Solestruck Sample sale. There were marked down like 90%.

I can't wait for Spring to arrive so that I can wear these outfits for more than a quick run outside. It's cold enough to snow these days, but not quite wet enough... PS Check out Kelly Peach for hair color and cuts. She did my beautiful new auburn look!
